Gah!

Sometimes, my characters lives are just too interesting for me to handle. I've just had a scene that started out as a bit of light-hearted comedy turn into something darker with a heavier meaning. And the only way to find out which one works best is write them both and see how each one fits into the larger story. Which means writing two versions of about 15-20 pages. Some days I feel a bit like Richard Madoc from The Sandman story "Calliope".

Ummm, not the bit that held a muse captive and raped her for inspiration. I mean the bit after Morpheus cursed him, when his head is so full of ideas that he's driven to write them on the wall with the bloody tips of his fingers...

That's not really much better, is it? Yikes.
